# MDP Consulting — improving end-to-end system performance

At MDP Consulting, I served as Senior Software Engineer and Solution Architect, leading performance improvements across business applications used by a 15-person team. The work focused on coding standards, architecture quality, and database query optimization, resulting in a 50% increase in efficiency within three months.

This was a strong example of how technical performance improvements translate into business value. The system became faster, easier to maintain, and more predictable to evolve as requirements changed.

# Looking at performance as a systems problem

The application stack included C#.NET, ASP.NET MVC, REST APIs, AWS, TFS, PostgreSQL, T-SQL, JavaScript, Power BI, Jira, and Confluence. The challenge was not isolated to a single layer. Performance gains came from looking at how the application, database, and reporting workflows interacted with each other.

I helped enforce stronger engineering standards and improved data access patterns across the stack. The biggest improvements came from reducing unnecessary work, tightening query logic, and making sure the codebase followed clearer, more maintainable patterns.
