# PNI Digital Media — streamlining releases and delivery
As a Software Release Engineer at PNI Digital Media, I focused on the delivery backbone behind every application release: build configuration, environment pipelines, release automation, and troubleshooting. The work covered web apps, REST APIs, and legacy systems that all needed to move from development to production reliably and consistently.
I configured CI/CD and release workflows on Azure and VSTS, with Azure DevOps and Octopus as the core delivery platform. In one month, I resolved roughly 90% of 50 pending Jira tickets, which helped reduce the backlog and improve confidence in the release process across teams.
# Why release engineering matters
A technically sound application can still fail in practice when the release process is unstable. In fast-moving teams, deployment automation is not just operations work—it is part of product delivery and risk management.
I focused on standardizing and simplifying the path to deployment so teams could move forward without constant manual bottlenecks or release-day surprises. This was especially important in a mixed environment where both modern and legacy systems needed to be supported.
# Technical and operational impact
The stack included VS.NET, Azure DevOps, Octopus Deploy, Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, Git, and PowerShell. My work required both technical configuration and operational judgment: troubleshooting broken pipelines, improving process clarity, and helping teams work with a more predictable release rhythm.
This role deepened my understanding that modern engineering is not only about writing code. It is about making delivery reliable, repeatable, and safe enough to support ongoing innovation.
